Slushing Away, Writing Style

I finally completed my article interview and am excited to see it published in my first print magazine.

I also wrote 2 additional pages for another short story of mine, working to get that published.  This story focuses more explicitly on description and feeling, adding more depth to my character and her overall arc.   Was nice to focus on writing for an hour and a half.  Now I have to type it up and go from there.

Online Magazines

I just wanted to quickly mention that after researching online magazines yesterday, 2 magazines I found no longer existed.  Unfortunately, not only do they cease to exist, but if the webhosting URL/webpage is taken down, evidence of an individual's published writing will be hard to even acknowledge.  And as great as the internet is, I personally enjoy holding a solid form, and libraries always have back issues if the publication is no longer printing new issues.

Novella

I was happy to finally complete my novella edit.  I struggled with focus for the last section, not the story's fault mind you :)  And having a nice work relationship with the author was a plus.  The sci-fi novella is a fun, entertaining read, and it's free to read.  So please, go check it out!

Backstory - The Zoo

You never can tell...

Who knew that a story I originally wrote my junior year of high school would get published 17 years later?  I'm still amazed I even wrote that story, especially since I don't really consider myself a short story writer.  Writing literary analysis essays is my first love actually.  But I somehow managed to pull out a dark piece, probably because I allowed my thoughts to flow and wasn't concerned with over-thinking in any way.  What's more, I still have the originally copy, which was collected into a book with writing from my other classmates.

Enter 2007.  I took short story writing when I went back to college and pulled out "The Zoo", intent on rewriting it, and I'm glad I did.  To this day, it's still one of my favourite pieces of writing, which is why, 3 years later I choose to pull out my story and embark on yet another series of rewrites in July 2010 (I'd graduated college in '08), where "The Zoo" underwent another 7 revisions, followed by magazine searches and research.

And now, thank you Underneath the Juniper Tree, my story has found a home.

So keep at it, no matter how long it takes, whether days, months, or years.

Because you never know :)

Proof This

I'm back to proofreading a sci fi novella, which has turned out to be quite the interesting read.  And although I don't typically read sci fi, working as a freelance proofreader allows me to engage w/ material and enjoy another genre, and I can't wait to see where the author takes his story.
